Over the years, there have been so many unforgettable people that have kept the spirit of the Great Bright Way close their hearts. One of our personal favorites has played a huge mark in our community for over 40+ years….. acclaimed director and producer Richard Jay-Alexander.
Best known in our books as THE BROADWAY MAN, Richard Jay-Alexander is the ultimate impresario. Born in upstate New York and now living in Miami, he began his career as a performer. He made his Broadway debut in 1977 in ZOOT SUIT and later appearing in the Tony winning play AMADEUS…. appearing in both the original casts and later helped stage productions around the world.
As time went on, Alexander started going more towards the creative side of the business. He began going into the worlds of directing and producing. In the 1980’s, he went on to be the Associate Director and Executive Producer for the American productions of many of Sir Cameron Mackintosh’s greatest hits for 12 YEARS. Many of his notable works included helping out with the original productions of….
He has continued to direct many Live Theater and Opera productions all around the world today.
Along with Theater, Alexander is also known for directing and producing concert work (along with albums) for some of your favorite Broadway stars including….
the legendary Barbra Streisand,
Tony winner Bernadette Peters,
the divine Bette Midler,
Tony and Emmy winner Kristin Chenoweth (including her recent Broadway concert residencies MY LOVE LETTER TO BROADWAY and FOR THE GIRLS),
Tony nominee Norm Lewis (including his annual Christmas concerts at Feinstein’s/54 Below),
and so much more.
He’s a longtime board member for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS which he’s continued to direct many benefits shows for them.
Richard-Jay Alexander today continues to direct concerts for Broadway’s best along with inspiring the next generation of talents.

BREAKING NEWS: Celebrated Tony nominated director and choreographer Graciela Daniele will finally receive her first Tony….. However, it will be a special one. The Argentinian dancer and creator has been tapped as the recipient for the LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD at this year ceremony for her unforgettable legacy.
Daniele was previously nominated 10 TIMES for her unforgettable works as BOTH a director, choreographer, and even writer on Broadway shows. She was nominated for her works on….

The 74th Annual Tony Awards is set for September 26th, 2021 on both CBS and Paramount+. However, this year’s ceremony is going to be done a little bit different as a 2 PART event. It goes like this…..
The celebration will kick off at 7pm EST with a 2 HOUR traditional presentation of the Awards (presented by The Broadway League and American Theatre Wing) streamed only on Paramount+.
From there at 9pm EST, CBS will air a full 2 HOUR Live Concert entitled THE TONY AWARDS PRESENTS: BROADWAY’S BACK. It will include performances from this year’s 3 nominated shows for BEST MUSICAL (consisting of Jagged Little Pill, Moulin Rouge, and Tina), some of Broadway’s longest running hits, and more. From there, it will announce Tony winning shows nominated for BEST REVIVAL OF A PLAY, BEST PLAY, and of course BEST MUSICAL.

BREAKING NEWS: The Theater world just lost a legendary director and choreographer who made a huge mark on Broadway, London’s West End, and around the world….

The legendary Dame Gillian Lynne passed away at the age of 92. She was well known for her work in the worlds of Theater, Film, TV, and Opera. Most famously she is known for creating the original choreography to Andrew Lloyd Webber’s long running hits Cats the Musical and the still going strong smash hit The Phantom of the Opera. Her legacy still lives one.

BREAKING NEWS: SOMETHING’S COMING! Acclaimed director Steven Speilberg has been tapped to director an direct an upcoming movie musical remake of West Side Story for 20th Century Fox.

This new film adaptation of Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim’s romantic and legendary musical (updating Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet for the present day) is currently searching for some fresh new talent to star as the musical’s Crossed-Lovers “Tony” and “Maria” as well as the featured roles of “Anita” and “Bernardo”.

Want to be considered for an audition? All you have to do is email a photo and video of you singing at [email protected]. Get ready to show off your triple threat talents.

The original film version of WEST SIDE STORY was released in 1961 starring Richard Beymer as “Tony,” the late Natalie Wood as “Maria,” and the legendary Rita Moreno as “Anita.” Filmed on location in our very own New York City backyard (in the area that later was built as Lincoln Center), the film later went on to receive critical acclaim during its opening week, receiving 11 Academy Award nominations and winning 10, including Best Picture. The film also made history as the only Musical movie ever to receive the most Oscar nominations.

See Tony-Winning Director Julie Taymor Receive a Sardi’s Portrait


Congrats to Julie Taymor who just received her own caricature at the legendary Sardi’s Resturant. For those who may not know, Julie Taymor is a genius acclaimed director, costume, puppet designer in the worlds of Theatre, Opera, and Film.

This year has been having an exciting year for her with 2 of her genius works on Broadway. Her current new Play M. Butterfly has recently opened at Broadway’s Cort Theatre. In addition, her signature show Disney’s The Lion King – Musical is celebrating it’s 20th Anniversary on Broadway this year.

FUN FACT: For THE LION KING, Taymor made Broadway history as the first female EVER to win a Tony Award for Best Direction of a Musical.
